10:1In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, even a great warfare: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision. 10:2In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three whole weeks. 10:3I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine into my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled. 10:4And in the four and twentieth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which is Hiddekel, 10:5I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, a man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with pure gold of Uphaz: 10:6his body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as flaming torches, and his arms and his feet like unto burnished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude. 10:7And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision; for the men that were with me saw not the vision; but a great quaking fell upon them, and they fled to hide themselves. 10:8So I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me; for my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength. 10:9Yet heard I the voice of his words; and when I heard the voice of his words, then was I fallen into a deep sleep on my face, with my face toward the ground. 10:10And, behold, a hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands. 10:11And he said unto me, O Daniel, thou man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright; for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling. 10:12Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel; for from the first day that thou didst set thy heart to understand, and to humble thyself before thy God, thy words were heard: and I am come for thy words` sake. 10:13But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days; but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me: and I remained there with the kings of Persia. 10:14Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days; for the vision is yet for [many] days: 10:15and when he had spoken unto me according to these words, I set my face toward the ground, and was dumb. 10:16And, behold, one in the likeness of the sons of men touched my lips: then I opened my mouth, and spake and said unto him that stood before me, O my lord, by reason of the vision my sorrows are turned upon me, and I retain no strength. 10:17For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, straightway there remained no strength in me, neither was there breath left in me. 10:18Then there touched me again one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me. 10:19And he said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he spake unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me. 10:20Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I am come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I go forth, lo, the prince of Greece shall come. 10:21But I will tell thee that which is inscribed in the writing of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me against these, but Michael your prince.
11:1And as for me, in the first year of Darius the Mede, I stood up to confirm and strengthen him. 11:2And now will I show thee the truth. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far richer than they all: and when he is waxed strong through his riches, he shall stir up all against the realm of Greece. 11:3And a mighty king shall stand up, that shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will. 11:4And when he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven, but not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion wherewith he ruled; for his kingdom shall be plucked up, even for others besides these. 11:5And the king of the south shall be strong, and [one] of his princes; and he shall be strong above him, and have dominion; his dominion shall be a great dominion. 11:6And at the end of years they shall join themselves together; and the daughter of the king of the south shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement: but she shall not retain the strength of her arm; neither shall he stand, nor his arm; but she shall be given up, and they that brought her, and he that begat her, and he that strengthened her in those times. 11:7But out of a shoot from her roots shall one stand up in his place, who shall come unto the army, and shall enter into the fortress of the king of the north, and shall deal against them, and shall prevail. 11:8And also their gods, with their molten images, [and] with their goodly vessels of silver and of gold, shall he carry captive into Egypt; and he shall refrain some years from the king of the north. 11:9And he shall come into the realm of the king of the south, but he shall return into his own land. 11:10And his sons shall war, and shall assemble a multitude of great forces, which shall come on, and overflow, and pass through; and they shall return and war, even to his fortress. 11:11And the king of the south shall be moved with anger, and shall come forth and fight with him, even with the king of the north; and he shall set forth a great multitude, and the multitude shall be given into his hand. 11:12And the multitude shall be lifted up, and his heart shall be exalted; and he shall cast down tens of thousands, but he shall not prevail. 11:13And the king of the north shall return, and shall set forth a multitude greater than the former; and he shall come on at the end of the times, [even of] years, with a great army and with much substance. 11:14And in those times there shall many stand up against the king of the south: also the children of the violent among thy people shall lift themselves up to establish the vision; but they shall fall. 11:15So the king of the north shall come, and cast up a mound, and take a well-fortified city: and the forces of the south shall not stand, neither his chosen people, neither shall there be any strength to stand. 11:16But he that cometh against him shall do according to his own will, and none shall stand before him; and he shall stand in the glorious land, and in his hand shall be destruction. 11:17And he shall set his face to come with the strength of his whole kingdom, and with him equitable conditions; and he shall perform them: and he shall give him the daughter of women, to corrupt her; but she shall not stand, neither be for him. 11:18After this shall he turn his face unto the isles, and shall take many: but a prince shall cause the reproach offered by him to cease; yea, moreover, he shall cause his reproach to turn upon him. 11:19Then he shall turn his face toward the fortresses of his own land; but he shall stumble and fall, and shall not be found. 11:20Then shall stand up in his place one that shall cause an exactor to pass through the glory of the kingdom; but within few days he shall be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in battle. 11:21And in his place shall stand up a contemptible person, to whom they had not given the honor of the kingdom: but he shall come in time of security, and shall obtain the kingdom by flatteries. 11:22And the overwhelming forces shall be overwhelmed from before him, and shall be broken; yea, also the prince of the covenant. 11:23And after the league made with him he shall work deceitfully; for he shall come up, and shall become strong, with a small people. 11:24In time of security shall he come even upon the fattest places of the province; and he shall do that which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers` fathers; he shall scatter among them prey, and spoil, and substance: yea, he shall devise his devices against the strongholds, even for a time. 11:25And he shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the south with a great army; and the king of the south shall war in battle with an exceeding great and mighty army; but he shall not stand; for they shall devise devices against him. 11:26Yea, they that eat of his dainties shall destroy him, and his army shall overflow; and many shall fall down slain. 11:27And as for both these kings, their hearts shall be to do mischief, and they shall speak lies at one table: but it shall not prosper; for yet the end shall be at the time appointed. 11:28Then shall he return into his land with great substance; and his heart [shall be] against the holy covenant; and he shall do [his pleasure], and return to his own land. 11:29At the time appointed he shall return, and come into the south; but it shall not be in the latter time as it was in the former. 11:30For ships of Kittim shall come against him; therefore he shall be grieved, and shall return, and have indignation against the holy covenant, and shall do [his pleasure]: he shall even return, and have regard unto them that forsake the holy covenant. 11:31And forces shall stand on his part, and they shall profane the sanctuary, even the fortress, and shall take away the continual [burnt-offering], and they shall set up the abomination that maketh desolate. 11:32And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he pervert by flatteries; but the people that know their God shall be strong, and do [exploits]. 11:33And they that are wise among the people shall instruct many; yet they shall fall by the sword and by flame, by captivity and by spoil, [many] days. 11:34Now when they shall fall, they shall be helped with a little help; but many shall join themselves unto them with flatteries. 11:35And some of them that are wise shall fall, to refine them, and to purify, and to make them white, even to the time of the end; because it is yet for the time appointed. 11:36And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods; and he shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished; for that which is determined shall be done. 11:37Neither shall he regard the gods of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god; for he shall magnify himself above all. 11:38But in his place shall he honor the god of fortresses; and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honor with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things. 11:39And he shall deal with the strongest fortresses by the help of a foreign god: whosoever acknowledgeth [him] he will increase with glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for a price. 11:40And at the time of the end shall the king of the south contend with him; and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass through. 11:41He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many [countries] shall be overthrown; but these shall be delivered out of his hand: Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon. 11:42He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries; and the land of Egypt shall not escape. 11:43But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps. 11:44But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him; and he shall go forth with great fury to destroy and utterly to sweep away many. 11:45And he shall plant the tents of his palace between the sea and the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.
12:1And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince who standeth for the children of thy people; and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. 12:2And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. 12:3And they that are wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. 12:4But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. 12:5Then I, Daniel, looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on the brink of the river on this side, and the other on the brink of the river on that side. 12:6And one said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders? 12:7And I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and a half; and when they have made an end of breaking in pieces the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished. 12:8And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my lord, what shall be the issue of these things? 12:9And he said, Go thy way, Daniel; for the words are shut up and sealed till the time of the end. 12:10Many shall purify themselves, and make themselves white, and be refined; but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand; but they that are wise shall understand. 12:11And from the time that the continual [burnt-offering] shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand and two hundred and ninety days. 12:12Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days. 12:13But go thou thy way till the end be; for thou shalt rest, and shalt stand in thy lot, at the end of the days.
Hosea
1:1The word of Jehovah that came unto Hosea the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel. 1:2When Jehovah spake at the first by Hosea, Jehovah said unto Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredom and children of whoredom; for the land doth commit great whoredom, [departing] from Jehovah. 1:3So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim; and she conceived, and bare him a son. 1:4And Jehovah said unto him, Call his name Jezreel; for yet a little while, and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and will cause the kingdom of the house of Israel to cease. 1:5And it shall come to pass at that day, that I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel. 1:6And she conceived again, and bare a daughter. And [Jehovah] said unto him, Call her name Lo-ruhamah; for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel, that I should in any wise pardon them. 1:7But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by Jehovah their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen. 1:8Now when she had weaned Lo-ruhamah, she conceived, and bare a son. 1:9And [Jehovah] said, Call his name Lo-ammi; for ye are not my people, and I will not be your [God]. 1:10Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass that, in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, it shall be said unto them, [Ye are] the sons of the living God. 1:11And the children of Judah and the children of Israel shall be gathered together, and they shall appoint themselves one head, and shall go up from the land; for great shall be the day of Jezreel.
2:1Say ye unto your brethren, Ammi; and to your sisters, Ruhamah. 2:2Contend with your mother, contend; for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband; and let her put away her whoredoms from her face, and her adulteries from between her breasts; 2:3lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born, and make her as a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and slay her with thirst. 2:4Yea, upon her children will I have no mercy; for they are children of whoredom; 2:5for their mother hath played the harlot; she that conceived them hath done shamefully; for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink. 2:6Therefore, behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and I will build a wall against her, that she shall not find her paths. 2:7And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now. 2:8For she did not know that I gave her the grain, and the new wine, and the oil, and multiplied unto her silver and gold, which they used for Baal. 2:9Therefore will I take back my grain in the time thereof, and my new wine in the season thereof, and will pluck away my wool and my flax which should have covered her nakedness. 2:10And now will I uncover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers, and none shall deliver her out of my hand. 2:11I will also cause all her mirth to cease, her feasts, her new moons, and her sabbaths, and all her solemn assemblies. 2:12And I will lay waste her vines and her fig-trees, whereof she hath said, These are my hire that my lovers have given me; and I will make them a forest, and the beasts of the field shall eat them. 2:13And I will visit upon her the days of the Baalim, unto which she burned incense, when she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and went after her lovers, and forgat me, saith Jehovah. 2:14Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her. 2:15And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope; and she shall make answer there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt. 2:16And it shall be at that day, saith Jehovah, that thou shalt call me Ishi, and shalt call me no more Baali. 2:17For I will take away the names of the Baalim out of her mouth, and they shall no more be mentioned by their name. 2:18And in that day will I make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, and with the birds of the heavens, and with the creeping things of the ground: and I will break the bow and the sword and the battle out of the land, and will make them to lie down safely. 2:19And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in justice, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies. 2:20I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness; and thou shalt know Jehovah. 2:21And it shall come to pass in that day, I will answer, saith Jehovah, I will answer the heavens, and they shall answer the earth; 2:22and the earth shall answer the grain, and the new wine, and the oil; and they shall answer Jezreel. 2:23And I will sow her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them that were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, [Thou art] my God.
3:1And Jehovah said unto me, Go again, love a woman beloved of [her] friend, and an adulteress, even as Jehovah loveth the children of Israel, though they turn unto other gods, and love cakes of raisins. 3:2So I bought her to me for fifteen [pieces] of silver, and a homer of barley, and a half-homer of barley; 3:3and I said unto her, Thou shalt abide for me many days; thou shalt not play the harlot, and thou shalt not be any man`s wife: so will I also be toward thee. 3:4For the children of Israel shall abide many days without king, and without prince, and without sacrifice, and without pillar, and without ephod or teraphim: 3:5afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek Jehovah their God, and David their king, and shall come with fear unto Jehovah and to his goodness in the latter days.
4:1Hear the word of Jehovah, ye children of Israel; for Jehovah hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor goodness, nor knowledge of God in the land. 4:2There is nought but swearing and breaking faith, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery; they break out, and blood toucheth blood. 4:3Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field and the birds of the heavens; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away. 4:4Yet let no man strive, neither let any man reprove; for thy people are as they that strive with the priest. 4:5And thou shalt stumble in the day, and the prophet also shall stumble with thee in the night; and I will destroy thy mother. 4:6My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children. 4:7As they were multiplied, so they sinned against me: I will change their glory into shame. 4:8They feed on the sin of my people, and set their heart on their iniquity. 4:9And it shall be, like people, like priest; and I will punish them for their ways, and will requite them their doings. 4:10And they shall eat, and not have enough; they shall play the harlot, and shall not increase; because they have left off taking heed to Jehovah. 4:11Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the understanding. 4:12My people ask counsel at their stock, and their staff declareth unto them; for the spirit of whoredom hath caused them to err, and they have played the harlot, [departing] from under their God. 4:13They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and terebinths, because the shadow thereof is good: therefore your daughters play the harlot, and your brides commit adultery. 4:14I will not punish your daughters when they play the harlot, nor your brides when they commit adultery; for [the men] themselves go apart with harlots, and they sacrifice with the prostitutes; and the people that doth not understand shall be overthrown. 4:15Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Judah offend; and come not ye unto Gilgal, neither go ye up to Beth-aven, nor swear, As Jehovah liveth. 4:16For Israel hath behaved himself stubbornly, like a stubborn heifer: now will Jehovah feed them as a lamb in a large place. 4:17Ephraim is joined to idols; let him alone. 4:18Their drink is become sour; they play the harlot continually; her rulers dearly love shame. 4:19The wind hath wrapped her up in its wings; and they shall be put to shame because of their sacrifices.
5:1Hear this, O ye priests, and hearken, O house of Israel, and give ear, O house of the king; for unto you pertaineth the judgment; for ye have been a snare at Mizpah, and a net spread upon Tabor. 5:2And the revolters are gone deep in making slaughter; but I am a rebuker of them all. 5:3I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hid from me; for now, O Ephraim, thou hast played the harlot, Israel is defiled. 5:4Their doings will not suffer them to turn unto their God; for the spirit of whoredom is within them, and they know not Jehovah. 5:5And the pride of Israel doth testify to his face: therefore Israel and Ephraim shall stumble in their iniquity; Judah also shall stumble with them. 5:6They shall go with their flocks and with their herds to seek Jehovah; but they shall not find him: he hath withdrawn himself from them. 5:7They have dealt treacherously against Jehovah; for they have borne strange children: now shall the new moon devour them with their fields. 5:8Blow ye the cornet in Gibeah, and the trumpet in Ramah: sound an alarm at Beth-aven; behind thee, O Benjamin. 5:9Ephraim shall become a desolation in the day of rebuke: among the tribes of Israel have I made known that which shall surely be. 5:10The princes of Judah are like them that remove the landmark: I will pour out my wrath upon them like water. 5:11Ephraim is oppressed, he is crushed in judgment; because he was content to walk after [man`s] command. 5:12Therefore am I unto Ephraim as a moth, and to the house of Judah as rottenness. 5:13When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah [saw] his wound, then went Ephraim to Assyria, and sent to king Jareb: but he is not able to heal you, neither will he cure you of your wound. 5:14For I will be unto Ephraim as a lion, and as a young lion to the house of Judah: I, even I, will tear and go away; I will carry off, and there shall be none to deliver. 5:15I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me earnestly.
6:1Come, and let us return unto Jehovah; for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up. 6:2After two days will he revive us: on the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live before him. 6:3And let us know, let us follow on to know Jehovah: his going forth is sure as the morning; and he will come unto us as the rain, as the latter rain that watereth the earth. 6:4O Ephraim, what shall I do unto thee? O Judah, what shall I do unto thee? for your goodness is as a morning cloud, and as the dew that goeth early away. 6:5Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgments are [as] the light that goeth forth. 6:6For I desire goodness, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt-offerings. 6:7But they like Adam have transgressed the covenant: there have they dealt treacherously against me. 6:8Gilead is a city of them that work iniquity; it is stained with blood. 6:9And as troops of robbers wait for a man, so the company of priests murder in the way toward Shechem; yea, they have committed lewdness. 6:10In the house of Israel I have seen a horrible thing: there whoredom is [found] in Ephraim, Israel is defiled. 6:11Also, O Judah, there is a harvest appointed for thee, when I bring back the captivity of my people.
7:1When I would heal Israel, then is the iniquity of Ephraim uncovered, and the wickedness of Samaria; for they commit falsehood, and the thief entereth in, and the troop of robbers ravageth without. 7:2And they consider not in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness: now have their own doings beset them about; they are before my face. 7:3They make the king glad with their wickedness, and the princes with their lies. 7:4They are all adulterers; they are as an oven heated by the baker; he ceaseth to stir [the fire], from the kneading of the dough, until it be leavened. 7:5On the day of our king the princes made themselves sick with the heat of wine; he stretched out his hand with scoffers. 7:6For they have made ready their heart like an oven, while they lie in wait: their baker sleepeth all the night; in the morning it burneth as a flaming fire. 7:7They are all hot as an oven, and devour their judges; all their kings are fallen: there is none among them that calleth unto me. 7:8Ephraim, he mixeth himself among the peoples; Ephraim is a cake not turned. 7:9Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knoweth [it] not: yea, gray hairs are here and there upon him, and he knoweth [it] not. 7:10And the pride of Israel doth testify to his face: yet they have not returned unto Jehovah their God, nor sought him, for all this. 7:11And Ephraim is like a silly dove, without understanding: they call unto Egypt, they go to Assyria. 7:12When they shall go, I will spread my net upon them; I will bring them down as the birds of the heavens; I will chastise them, as their congregation hath heard. 7:13Woe unto them! for they have wandered from me; destruction unto them! for they have trespassed against me: though I would redeem them, yet they have spoken lies against me. 7:14And they have not cried unto me with their heart, but they howl upon their beds: they assemble themselves for grain and new wine; they rebel against me. 7:15Though I have taught and strengthened their arms, yet do they devise mischief against me. 7:16They return, but not to [him that is] on high; they are like a deceitful bow; their princes shall fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue: this shall be their derision in the land of Egypt.
8:1[Set] the trumpet to thy mouth. As an eagle [he cometh] against the house of Jehovah, because they have transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law. 8:2They shall cry unto me, My God, we Israel know thee. 8:3Israel hath cast off that which is good: the enemy shall pursue him. 8:4They have set up kings, but not by me; they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off. 8:5He hath cast off thy calf, O Samaria; mine anger is kindled against them: how long will it be ere they attain to innocency? 8:6For from Israel is even this; the workman made it, and it is no God; yea, the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces. 8:7For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: he hath no standing grain; the blade shall yield no meal; if so be it yield, strangers shall swallow it up. 8:8Israel is swallowed up: now are they among the nations as a vessel wherein none delighteth. 8:9For they are gone up to Assyria, [like] a wild ass alone by himself: Ephraim hath hired lovers. 8:10Yea, though they hire among the nations, now will I gather them; and they begin to be diminished by reason of the burden of the king of princes. 8:11Because Ephraim hath multiplied altars for sinning, altars have been unto him for sinning. 8:12I wrote for him the ten thousand things of my law; but they are counted as a strange thing. 8:13As for the sacrifices of mine offerings, they sacrifice flesh and eat it; but Jehovah accepteth them not: now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins; they shall return to Egypt. 8:14For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and builded palaces; and Judah hath multiplied fortified cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the castles thereof.
9:1Rejoice not, O Israel, for joy, like the peoples; for thou hast played the harlot, [departing] from thy God; thou hast loved hire upon every grain-floor. 9:2The threshing-floor and the winepress shall not feed them, and the new wine shall fail her. 9:3They shall not dwell in Jehovah`s land; but Ephraim shall return to Egypt, and they shall eat unclean food in Assyria. 9:4They shall not pour out wine-offerings to Jehovah, neither shall they be pleasing unto him: their sacrifices shall be unto them as the bread of mourners; all that eat thereof shall be polluted; for their bread shall be for their appetite; it shall not come into the house of Jehovah. 9:5What will ye do in the day of solemn assembly, and in the day of the feast of Jehovah? 9:6For, lo, they are gone away from destruction; [yet] Egypt shall gather them up, Memphis shall bury them; their pleasant things of silver, nettles shall possess them; thorns shall be in their tents. 9:7The days of visitation are come, the days of recompense are come; Israel shall know it: the prophet is a fool, the man that hath the spirit is mad, for the abundance of thine iniquity, and because the enmity is great. 9:8Ephraim [was] a watchman with my God: as for the prophet, a fowler`s snare is in all his ways, [and] enmity in the house of his God. 9:9They have deeply corrupted themselves, as in the days of Gibeah: he will remember their iniquity, he will visit their sins. 9:10I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers as the first-ripe in the fig-tree at its first season: but they came to Baal-peor, and consecrated themselves unto the shameful thing, and became abominable like that which they loved. 9:11As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird: there shall be no birth, and none with child, and no conception. 9:12Though they bring up their children, yet will I bereave them, so that not a man shall be left: yea, woe also to them when I depart from them! 9:13Ephraim, like as I have seen Tyre, is planted in a pleasant place: but Ephraim shall bring out his children to the slayer. 9:14Give them, O Jehovah-what wilt thou give? give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts. 9:15All their wickedness is in Gilgal; for there I hated them: because of the wickedness of their doings I will drive them out of my house; I will love them no more; all their princes are revolters. 9:16Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: yea, though they bring forth, yet will I slay the beloved fruit of their womb. 9:17My God will cast them away, because they did not hearken unto him; and they shall be wanderers among the nations.
10:1Israel is a luxuriant vine, that putteth forth his fruit: according to the abundance of his fruit he hath multiplied his altars; according to the goodness of their land they have made goodly pillars. 10:2Their heart is divided; now shall they be found guilty: he will smite their altars, he will destroy their pillars. 10:3Surely now shall they say, We have no king; for we fear not Jehovah; and the king, what can he do for us? 10:4They speak [vain] words, swearing falsely in making covenants: therefore judgment springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field. 10:5The inhabitants of Samaria shall be in terror for the calves of Beth-aven; for the people thereof shall mourn over it, and the priests thereof that rejoiced over it, for the glory thereof, because it is departed from it. 10:6It also shall be carried unto Assyria for a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel. 10:7[As for] Samaria, her king is cut off, as foam upon the water. 10:8The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us. 10:9O Israel, thou hast sinned from the days of Gibeah: there they stood; the battle against the children of iniquity doth not overtake them in Gibeah. 10:10When it is my desire, I will chastise them; and the peoples shall be gathered against them, when they are bound to their two transgressions. 10:11And Ephraim is a heifer that is taught, that loveth to tread out [the grain]; but I have passed over upon her fair neck: I will set a rider on Ephraim; Judah shall plow, Jacob shall break his clods. 10:12Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap according to kindness; break up your fallow ground; for it is time to seek Jehovah, till he come and rain righteousness upon you. 10:13Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies; for thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men. 10:14Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be destroyed, as Shalman destroyed Beth-arbel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces with her children. 10:15So shall Beth-el do unto you because of your great wickedness: at daybreak shall the king of Israel be utterly cut off.
11:1When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt. 11:2The more [the prophets] called them, the more they went from them: they sacrificed unto the Baalim, and burned incense to graven images. 11:3Yet I taught Ephraim to walk; I took them on my arms; but they knew not that I healed them. 11:4I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love; and I was to them as they that lift up the yoke on their jaws; and I laid food before them. 11:5They shall not return into the land of Egypt; but the Assyrian shall be their king, because they refused to return [to me]. 11:6And the sword shall fall upon their cities, and shall consume their bars, and devour [them], because of their own counsels. 11:7And my people are bent on backsliding from me: though they call them to [him that is] on high, none at all will exalt [him]. 11:8How shall I give thee up, Ephraim? [how] shall I cast thee off, Israel? how shall I make thee as Admah? [how] shall I set thee as Zeboiim? my heart is turned within me, my compassions are kindled together. 11:9I will not execute the fierceness of mine anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim: for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of thee; and I will not come in wrath. 11:10They shall walk after Jehovah, who will roar like a lion; for he will roar, and the children shall come trembling from the west. 11:11They shall come trembling as a bird out of Egypt, and as a dove out of the land of Assyria; and I will make them to dwell in their houses, saith Jehovah. 11:12Ephraim compasseth me about with falsehood, and the house of Israel with deceit; but Judah yet ruleth with God, and is faithful with the Holy One.
12:1Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he continually multiplieth lies and desolation; and they make a covenant with Assyria, and oil is carried into Egypt. 12:2Jehovah hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him. 12:3In the womb he took his brother by the heel; and in his manhood he had power with God: 12:4yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed; he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him at Beth-el, and there he spake with us, 12:5even Jehovah, the God of hosts; Jehovah is his memorial [name]. 12:6Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep kindness and justice, and wait for thy God continually. 12:7[He is] a trafficker, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress. 12:8And Ephraim said, Surely I am become rich, I have found me wealth: in all my labors they shall find in me no iniquity that were sin. 12:9But I am Jehovah thy God from the land of Egypt; I will yet again make thee to dwell in tents, as in the days of the solemn feast. 12:10I have also spoken unto the prophets, and I have multiplied visions; and by the ministry of the prophets have I used similitudes. 12:11Is Gilead iniquity? they are altogether false; in Gilgal they sacrifice bullocks; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the field. 12:12And Jacob fled into the field of Aram, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept [sheep]. 12:13And by a prophet Jehovah brought Israel up out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved. 12:14Ephraim hath provoked to anger most bitterly: therefore shall his blood be left upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord return unto him.
13:1When Ephraim spake, there was trembling; he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Baal, he died. 13:2And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, even idols according to their own understanding, all of them the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves. 13:3Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the dew that passeth early away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the threshing-floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney. 13:4Yet I am Jehovah thy God from the land of Egypt; and thou shalt know no god but me, and besides me there is no saviour. 13:5I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought. 13:6According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted: therefore have they forgotten me. 13:7Therefore am I unto them as a lion; as a leopard will I watch by the way; 13:8I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart; and there will I devour them like a lioness; the wild beast shall tear them. 13:9It is thy destruction, O Israel, that [thou art] against me, against thy help. 13:10Where now is thy king, that he may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges, of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and princes? 13:11I have given thee a king in mine anger, and have taken him away in my wrath. 13:12The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is laid up in store. 13:13The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son; for it is time he should not tarry in the place of the breaking forth of children. 13:14I will ransom them from the power of Sheol; I will redeem them from death: O death, where are thy plagues? O Sheol, where is thy destruction? repentance shall be hid from mine eyes. 13:15Though he be fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come, the breath of Jehovah coming up from the wilderness; and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: he shall make spoil of the treasure of all goodly vessels. 13:16Samaria shall bear her guilt; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword; their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.
14:1O Israel, return unto Jehovah thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity. 14:2Take with you words, and return unto Jehovah: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and accept that which is good: so will we render [as] bullocks [the offering of] our lips. 14:3Assyria shall not save us; we will not ride upon horses; neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, [Ye are] our gods; for in thee the fatherless findeth mercy. 14:4I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely; for mine anger is turned away from him. 14:5I will be as the dew unto Israel; he shall blossom as the lily, and cast forth his roots as Lebanon. 14:6His branches shall spread, and his beauty shall be as the olive-tree, and his smell as Lebanon. 14:7They that dwell under his shadow shall return; they shall revive [as] the grain, and blossom as the vine: the scent thereof shall be as the wine of Lebanon. 14:8Ephraim [shall say], What have I to do any more with idols? I have answered, and will regard him: I am like a green fir-tree; from me is thy fruit found. 14:9Who is wise, that he may understand these things? prudent, that he may know them? for the ways of Jehovah are right, and the just shall walk in them; but transgressors shall fall therein.

1:1The word of Jehovah that came to Joel the son of Pethuel. 1:2Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or in the days of your fathers? 1:3Tell ye your children of it, and [let] your children [tell] their children, and their children another generation. 1:4That which the palmer-worm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the canker-worm eaten; and that which the canker-worm hath left hath the caterpillar eaten. 1:5Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and wail, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine; for it is cut off from your mouth. 1:6For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number; his teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the jaw-teeth of a lioness. 1:7He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig-tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white. 1:8Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth. 1:9The meal-offering and the drink-offering are cut off from the house of Jehovah; the priests, Jehovah`s ministers, mourn. 1:10The field is laid waste, the land mourneth; for the grain is destroyed, the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth. 1:11Be confounded, O ye husbandmen, wail, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; for the harvest of the field is perished. 1:12The vine is withered, and the fig-tree languisheth; the pomegranate-tree, the palm-tree also, and the apple-tree, even all the trees of the field are withered: for joy is withered away from the sons of men. 1:13Gird yourselves [with sackcloth], and lament, ye priests; wail, ye ministers of the altar; come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meal-offering and the drink-offering are withholden from the house of your God. 1:14Sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the old men [and] all the inhabitants of the land unto the house of Jehovah your God, and cry unto Jehovah. 1:15Alas for the day! for the day of Jehovah is at hand, and as destruction from the Almighty shall it come. 1:16Is not the food cut off before our eyes, [yea], joy and gladness from the house of our God? 1:17The seeds rot under their clods; the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the grain is withered. 1:18How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate. 1:19O Jehovah, to thee do I cry; for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field. 1:20Yea, the beasts of the field pant unto thee; for the water brooks are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
