5:1But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that ye should be written to, 5:2for ye know perfectly well yourselves, that the day of [the] Lord so comes as a thief by night. 5:3When they may say, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction comes upon them, as travail upon her that is with child; and they shall in no wise escape. 5:4But *ye*, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day should overtake you as a thief: 5:5for all *ye* are sons of light and sons of day; we are not of night nor of darkness. 5:6So then do not let us sleep as the rest do, but let us watch and be sober; 5:7for they that sleep sleep by night, and they that drink drink by night; 5:8but *we* being of [the] day, let us be sober, putting on [the] breastplate of faith and love, and as helmet [the] hope of salvation; 5:9because God has not set us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 5:10who has died for us, that whether we may be watching or sleep, we may live together with him. 5:11Wherefore encourage one another, and build up each one the other, even as also ye do. 5:12But we beg you, brethren, to know those who labour among you, and take the lead among you in [the] Lord, and admonish you, 5:13and to regard them exceedingly in love on account of their work. Be in peace among yourselves. 5:14But we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, comfort the faint-hearted, sustain the weak, be patient towards all. 5:15See that no one render to any evil for evil, but pursue always what is good towards one another and towards all; 5:16rejoice always; 5:17pray unceasingly; 5:18in everything give thanks, for this is [the] will of God in Christ Jesus towards you; 5:19quench not the Spirit; 5:20do not lightly esteem prophecies; 5:21but prove all things, hold fast the right; 5:22hold aloof from every form of wickedness. 5:23Now the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly: and your whole spirit, and soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 5:24He [is] faithful who calls you, who will also perform [it]. 5:25Brethren, pray for us. 5:26Greet all the brethren with a holy kiss. 5:27I adjure you by the Lord that the letter be read to all the [holy] brethren. 5:28The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [be] with you.
2 Thessalonians
1:1Paul and Silvanus and Timotheus to the assembly of Thessalonians in God our Father and [the] Lord Jesus Christ. 1:2Grace to you, and peace from God our Father, and [the] Lord Jesus Christ. 1:3We ought to thank God always for you, brethren, even as it is meet, because your faith increases exceedingly, and the love of each one of you all towards one another abounds; 1:4so that we ourselves make our boast in you in the assemblies of God for your endurance and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations, which ye are sustaining; 1:5a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, to the end that ye should be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for the sake of which ye also suffer; 1:6if at least [it is a] righteous thing with God to render tribulation to those that trouble you, 1:7and to you that are troubled repose with us, at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven, with [the] angels of his power, 1:8in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who know not God, and those who do not obey the glad tidings of our Lord Jesus Christ; 1:9who shall pay the penalty [of] everlasting destruction from [the] presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his might, 1:10when he shall have come to be glorified in his saints, and wondered at in all that have believed, (for our testimony to you has been believed,) in that day. 1:11To which end we also pray always for you, that our God may count you worthy of the calling, and fulfil all [the] good pleasure of [his] goodness and [the] work of faith with power, 1:12so that the name of our Lord Jesus [Christ] may be glorified in you and *ye* in him, according to the grace of our God, and of [the] Lord Jesus Christ.
2:1Now we beg you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to him, 2:2that ye be not soon shaken in mind, nor troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter, as [if it were] by us, as that the day of the Lord is present. 2:3Let not any one deceive you in any manner, because [it will not be] unless the apostasy have first come, and the man of sin have been revealed, the son of perdition; 2:4who opposes and exalts himself on high against all called God, or object of veneration; so that he himself sits down in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 2:5Do ye not remember that, being yet with you, I said these things to you? 2:6And now ye know that which restrains, that he should be revealed in his own time. 2:7For the mystery of lawlessness already works; only [there is] he who restrains now until he be gone, 2:8and then the lawless one shall be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus shall consume with the breath of his mouth, and shall annul by the appearing of his coming; 2:9whose coming is according to the working of Satan in all power and signs and wonders of falsehood, 2:10and in all deceit of unrighteousness to them that perish, because they have not received the love of the truth that they might be saved. 2:11And for this reason God sends to them a working of error, that they should believe what is false, 2:12that all might be judged who have not believed the truth, but have found pleasure in unrighteousness. 2:13But we ought to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved of [the] Lord, that God has chosen you from [the] beginning to salvation in sanctification of [the] Spirit and belief of [the] truth: 2:14whereto he has called you by our glad tidings, to [the] obtaining of [the] glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2:15So then, brethren, stand firm, and hold fast the instructions which ye have been taught, whether by word or by our letter. 2:16But our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us, and given [us] eternal consolation and good hope by grace, 2:17encourage your hearts, and establish you in every good work and word.
3:1For the rest, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run and be glorified, even as also with you; 3:2and that we may be delivered from bad and evil men, for faith [is] not [the portion] of all. 3:3But the Lord is faithful, who shall establish you and keep [you] from evil. 3:4But we trust in the Lord as to you, that the things which we enjoin, ye both do and will do. 3:5But the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patience of the Christ. 3:6Now we enjoin you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw from every brother walking disorderly and not according to the instruction which he received from us. 3:7For ye know yourselves how ye ought to imitate us, because we have not walked disorderly among you; 3:8nor have we eaten bread from any one without cost; but in toil and hardship working night and day not to be chargeable to any one of you: 3:9not that we have not the right, but that we might give ourselves as an example to you, in order to your imitating us. 3:10For also when we were with you we enjoined you this, that if any man does not like to work, neither let him eat. 3:11For we hear that [there are] some walking among you disorderly, not working at all, but busybodies. 3:12Now such we enjoin and exhort in [the] Lord Jesus Christ, that working quietly they eat their own bread. 3:13But *ye*, brethren, do not faint in well-doing. 3:14But if any one obey not our word by the letter, mark that man, and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed of himself; 3:15and do not esteem him as an enemy, but admonish [him] as a brother. 3:16But the Lord of peace himself give you peace continually in every way. The Lord [be] with you all. 3:17The salutation by the hand of me, Paul, which is [the] mark in every letter; so I write. 3:18The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [be] with you all.
1 Timothy
1:1Paul, apostle of Jesus Christ, according to [the] command of God our Saviour, and of Christ Jesus our hope, 1:2to Timotheus, [my] true child in faith: grace, mercy, peace, from God our Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. 1:3Even as I begged thee to remain in Ephesus, [when I was] going to Macedonia, that thou mightest enjoin some not to teach other doctrines, 1:4nor to turn their minds to fables and interminable genealogies, which bring questionings rather than [further] God's dispensation, which [is] in faith. 1:5But the end of what is enjoined is love out of a pure heart and a good conscience and unfeigned faith; 1:6which [things] some having missed, have turned aside to vain discourse, 1:7desiring to be law-teachers, not understanding either what they say or concerning what they [so] strenuously affirm. 1:8Now we know that the law [is] good if any one uses it lawfully, 1:9knowing this, that law has not its application to a righteous person, but to [the] lawless and insubordinate, to [the] impious and sinful, to [the] unholy and profane, to smiters of fathers and smiters of mothers; to murderers, 1:10fornicators, sodomites, kidnappers, liars, perjurers; and if any other thing is opposed to sound teaching, 1:11according to the glad tidings of the glory of the blessed God, with which *I* have been entrusted. 1:12[And] I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me power, that he has counted me faithful, appointing to ministry him 1:13who before was a blasphemer and persecutor, and an insolent overbearing [man]: but mercy was shewn me because I did it ignorantly, in unbelief. 1:14But the grace of our Lord surpassingly over-abounded with faith and love, which [is] in Christ Jesus. 1:15Faithful [is] the word, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom *I* am [the] first. 1:16But for this reason mercy was shewn me, that in me, [the] first, Jesus Christ might display the whole long-suffering, for a delineation of those about to believe on him to life eternal. 1:17Now to the King of the ages, [the] incorruptible, invisible, only God, honour and glory to the ages of ages. Amen. 1:18This charge, [my] child Timotheus, I commit to thee, according to the prophecies as to thee preceding, in order that thou mightest war by them the good warfare, 1:19maintaining faith and a good conscience; which [last] some, having put away, have made shipwreck as to faith; 1:20of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have delivered to Satan, that they may be taught by discipline not to blaspheme.
2:1I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings be made for all men; 2:2for kings and all that are in dignity, that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all piety and gravity; 2:3for this is good and acceptable before our Saviour God, 2:4who desires that all men should be saved and come to [the] knowledge of [the] truth. 2:5For God is one, and [the] mediator of God and men one, [the] man Christ Jesus, 2:6who gave himself a ransom for all, the testimony [to be rendered] in its own times; 2:7to which *I* have been appointed a herald and apostle, (I speak [the] truth, I do not lie,) a teacher of [the] nations in faith and truth. 2:8I will therefore that the men pray in every place, lifting up pious hands, without wrath or reasoning. 2:9In like manner also that the women in decent deportment and dress adorn themselves with modesty and discretion, not with plaited [hair] and gold, or pearls, or costly clothing, 2:10but, what becomes women making profession of the fear of God, by good works. 2:11Let a woman learn in quietness in all subjection; 2:12but I do not suffer a woman to teach nor to exercise authority over man, but to be in quietness; 2:13for Adam was formed first, then Eve: 2:14and Adam was not deceived; but the woman, having been deceived, was in transgression. 2:15But she shall be preserved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and love and holiness with discretion.
3:1The word [is] faithful: if any one aspires to exercise oversight, he desires a good work. 3:2The overseer then must be irreproachable, husband of one wife, sober, discreet, decorous, hospitable, apt to teach; 3:3not given to excesses from wine, not a striker, but mild, not addicted to contention, not fond of money, 3:4conducting his own house well, having [his] children in subjection with all gravity; 3:5(but if one does not know how to conduct his own house, how shall he take care of the assembly of God?) 3:6not a novice, that he may not, being inflated, fall into [the] fault of the devil. 3:7But it is necessary that he should have also a good testimony from those without, that he may fall not into reproach and [the] snare of the devil. 3:8Ministers, in like manner, grave, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not seeking gain by base means, 3:9holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. 3:10And let these be first proved, then let them minister, being without charge [against them]. 3:11[The] women in like manner grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things. 3:12Let [the] ministers be husbands of one wife, conducting [their] children and their own houses well: 3:13for those who shall have ministered well obtain for themselves a good degree, and much boldness in faith which [is] in Christ Jesus. 3:14These things I write to thee, hoping to come to thee more quickly; 3:15but if I delay, in order that thou mayest know how one ought to conduct oneself in God's house, which is [the] assembly of [the] living God, [the] pillar and base of the truth. 3:16And confessedly the mystery of piety is great. God has been manifested in flesh, has been justified in [the] Spirit, has appeared to angels, has been preached among [the] nations, has been believed on in [the] world, has been received up in glory.
4:1But the Spirit speaks expressly, that in latter times some shall apostatise from the faith, giving their mind to deceiving spirits and teachings of demons 4:2speaking lies in hypocrisy, cauterised as to their own conscience, 4:3forbidding to marry, [bidding] to abstain from meats, which God has created for receiving with thanksgiving for them who are faithful and know the truth. 4:4For every creature of God [is] good, and nothing [is] to be rejected, being received with thanksgiving; 4:5for it is sanctified by God's word and freely addressing [him]. 4:6Laying these things before the brethren, thou wilt be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished with the words of the faith and of the good teaching which thou hast fully followed up. 4:7But profane and old wives' fables avoid, but exercise thyself unto piety; 4:8for bodily exercise is profitable for a little, but piety is profitable for everything, having promise of life, of the present one, and of that to come. 4:9The word [is] faithful and worthy of all acceptation; 4:10for, for this we labour and suffer reproach, because we hope in a living God, who is preserver of all men, specially of those that believe. 4:11Enjoin and teach these things. 4:12Let no one despise thy youth, but be a model of the believers, in word, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. 4:13Till I come, give thyself to reading, to exhortation, to teaching. 4:14Be not negligent of the gift [that is] in thee, which has been given to thee through prophecy, with imposition of the hands of the elderhood. 4:15Occupy thyself with these things; be wholly in them, that thy progress may be manifest to all. 4:16Give heed to thyself and to the teaching; continue in them; for, doing this, thou shalt save both thyself and those that hear thee.
5:1Rebuke not an elder sharply, but exhort [him] as a father, younger [men] as brethren, 5:2elder women as mothers, younger women as sisters, with all purity. 5:3Honour widows who are really widows; 5:4but if any widow have children or descendants, let them learn first to be pious as regards their own house, and to render a return on their side to [their] parents; for this is acceptable in the sight of God. 5:5Now she who [is] a widow indeed, and is left alone, has put [her] hope in God, and continues in supplications and prayers night and day. 5:6But she that lives in habits of self-indulgence is dead [while] living. 5:7And these things enjoin, that they may be irreproachable. 5:8But if any one does not provide for his own, and specially for those of [his] house, he has denied the faith, and is worse than the unbeliever. 5:9Let a widow be put upon the list, being of not less than sixty years, [having been] wife of one man, 5:10borne witness to in good works, if she have brought up children, if she have exercised hospitality, if she have washed saints' feet, if she have imparted relief to the distressed, if she have diligently followed every good work. 5:11But younger widows decline; for when they grow wanton against Christ, they desire to marry, 5:12being guilty, because they have cast off their first faith. 5:13And, at the same time, they learn also [to be] idle, going about to people's houses; and not only idle, but also gossipers and meddlers, speaking things not becoming. 5:14I will therefore that the younger marry, bear children, rule the house, give no occasion to the adversary in respect of reproach. 5:15For already some have turned aside after Satan. 5:16If any believing man or woman have widows, let them impart relief to them, and let not the assembly be charged, that it may impart relief to those [that are] widows indeed. 5:17Let the elders who take the lead [among the saints] well be esteemed worthy of double honour, specially those labouring in word and teaching; 5:18for the scripture says, Thou shalt not muzzle an ox that treadeth out corn, and, The workman [is] worthy of his hire. 5:19Against an elder receive not an accusation unless where there are two or three witnesses. 5:20Those that sin convict before all, that the rest also may have fear. 5:21I testify before God and Christ Jesus and the elect angels, that thou keep these things without prejudice, doing nothing by favour. 5:22Lay hands quickly on no man, nor partake in others' sins. Keep thyself pure. 5:23Drink no longer only water, but use a little wine on account of thy stomach and thy frequent illnesses. 5:24Of some men the sins are manifest beforehand, going before to judgment, and some also they follow after. 5:25In like manner good works also are manifest beforehand, and those that are otherwise cannot be hid.
6:1Let as many bondmen as are under yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and the teaching be not blasphemed. 6:2And they that have believing masters, let them not despise [them] because they are brethren; but let them the rather serve them with subjection, because they are faithful and beloved, who profit by the good and ready service [rendered]. These things teach and exhort. 6:3If any one teach differently, and do not accede to sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the teaching which [is] according to piety, 6:4he is puffed up, knowing nothing, but sick about questions and disputes of words, out of which arise envy, strife, injurious words, evil suspicions, 6:5constant quarrellings of men corrupted in mind and destitute of the truth, holding gain to be [the end of] piety. 6:6But piety with contentment *is* great gain. 6:7For we have brought nothing into the world: [it is] [manifest] that neither can we carry anything out. 6:8But having sustenance and covering, we will be content with these. 6:9But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and many unwise and hurtful lusts, which plunge men into destruction and ruin. 6:10For the love of money is [the] root of every evil; which some having aspired after, have wandered from the faith, and pierced themselves with many sorrows. 6:11But *thou*, O man of God, flee these things, and pursue righteousness, piety, faith, love, endurance, meekness of spirit. 6:12Strive earnestly [in] the good conflict of faith. Lay hold of eternal life, to which thou hast been called, and hast confessed the good confession before many witnesses. 6:13I enjoin thee before God who preserves all things in life, and Christ Jesus who witnessed before Pontius Pilate the good confession, 6:14that thou keep the commandment spotless, irreproachable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ; 6:15which in its own time the blessed and only Ruler shall shew, the King of those that reign, and Lord of those that exercise lordship; 6:16who only has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light; whom no man has seen, nor is able to see; to whom [be] honour and eternal might. Amen. 6:17Enjoin on those rich in the present age not to be high-minded, nor to trust on the uncertainty of riches; but in the God who affords us all things richly for [our] enjoyment; 6:18to do good, to be rich in good works, to be liberal in distributing, disposed to communicate [of their substance], 6:19laying by for themselves a good foundation for the future, that they may lay hold of [what is] really life. 6:20O Timotheus, keep the entrusted deposit, avoiding profane, vain babblings, and oppositions of false-named knowledge, 6:21of which some having made profession, have missed the faith. Grace [be] with thee.
2 Timothy
1:1Paul, apostle of Jesus Christ by God's will, according to promise of life, the [life] which [is] in Christ Jesus, 1:2to Timotheus, [my] beloved child: grace, mercy, peace, from God [the] Father, and Christ Jesus our Lord. 1:3I am thankful to God, whom I serve from [my] forefathers with pure conscience, how unceasingly I have the remembrance of thee in my supplications night and day, 1:4earnestly desiring to see thee, remembering thy tears, that I may be filled with joy; 1:5calling to mind the unfeigned faith which [has been] in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and in thy mother Eunice, and I am persuaded that in thee also. 1:6For which cause I put thee in mind to rekindle the gift of God which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. 1:7For God has not given us a spirit of cowardice, but of power, and of love, and of wise discretion. 1:8Be not therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner; but suffer evil along with the glad tidings, according to the power of God; 1:9who has saved us, and has called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to [his] own purpose and grace, which [was] given to us in Christ Jesus before [the] ages of time, 1:10but has been made manifest now by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who has annulled death, and brought to light life and incorruptibility by the glad tidings; 1:11to which *I* have been appointed a herald and apostle and teacher of [the] nations. 1:12For which cause also I suffer these things; but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep for that day the deposit I have entrusted to him. 1:13Have an outline of sound words, which [words] thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which [are] in Christ Jesus. 1:14Keep, by the Holy Spirit which dwells in us, the good deposit entrusted. 1:15Thou knowest this, that all who [are] in Asia, of whom is Phygellus and Hermogenes, have turned away from me. 1:16The Lord grant mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he has often refreshed me, and has not been ashamed of my chain; 1:17but being in Rome sought me out very diligently, and found [me] 1:18the Lord grant to him to find mercy from [the] Lord in that day and how much service he rendered in Ephesus *thou* knowest best.
2:1Thou therefore, my child, be strong in the grace which [is] in Christ Jesus. 2:2And the things thou hast heard of me in the presence of many witnesses, these entrust to faithful men, such as shall be competent to instruct others also. 2:3Take thy share in suffering as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 2:4No one going as a soldier entangles himself with the affairs of life, that he may please him who has enlisted him as a soldier. 2:5And if also any one contend [in the games], he is not crowned unless he contend lawfully. 2:6The husbandman must labour before partaking of the fruits. 2:7Think of what I say, for the Lord will give thee understanding in all things. 2:8Remember Jesus Christ raised from among [the] dead, of [the] seed of David, according to my glad tidings, 2:9in which I suffer even unto bonds as an evil-doer: but the word of God is not bound. 2:10For this cause I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that *they* also may obtain the salvation which [is] in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 2:11The word [is] faithful; for if we have died together with [him], we shall also live together; 2:12if we endure, we shall also reign together; if we deny, *he* also will deny us; 2:13if we are unfaithful, *he* abides faithful, for he cannot deny himself. 2:14Of these things put in remembrance, testifying earnestly before the Lord not to have disputes of words, profitable for nothing, to the subversion of the hearers. 2:15Strive diligently to present thyself approved to God, a workman that has not to be ashamed, cutting in a straight line the word of truth. 2:16But profane, vain babblings shun, for they will advance to greater impiety, 2:17and their word will spread as a gangrene; of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; 2:18[men] who as to the truth have gone astray, saying that the resurrection has taken place already; and overthrow the faith of some. 2:19Yet the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, [The] Lord knows those that are his; and, Let every one who names the name of [the] Lord withdraw from iniquity. 2:20But in a great house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also wooden and earthen; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. 2:21If therefore one shall have purified himself from these, [in separating himself from them], he shall be a vessel to honour, sanctified, serviceable to the Master, prepared for every good work. 2:22But youthful lusts flee, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace, with those that call upon the Lord out of a pure heart. 2:23But foolish and senseless questionings avoid, knowing that they beget contentions. 2:24And a bondman of [the] Lord ought not to contend, but be gentle towards all; apt to teach; forbearing; 2:25in meekness setting right those who oppose, if God perhaps may sometime give them repentance to acknowledgment of [the] truth, 2:26and that they may awake up out of the snare of the devil, [who are] taken by him, for *his* will.
3:1But this know, that in [the] last days difficult times shall be there; 3:2for men shall be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, evil speakers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, profane, 3:3without natural affection, implacable, slanderers, of unsubdued passions, savage, having no love for what is good, 3:4traitors, headlong, of vain pretensions, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God; 3:5having a form of piety but denying the power of it: and from these turn away. 3:6For of these are they who are getting into houses, and leading captive silly women, laden with sins, led by various lusts, 3:7always learning, and never able to come to [the] knowledge of [the] truth. 3:8Now in the same manner in which Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, thus these also withstand the truth; men corrupted in mind, found worthless as regards the faith. 3:9But they shall not advance farther; for their folly shall be completely manifest to all, as that of those also became. 3:10But *thou* hast been thoroughly acquainted with my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, endurance, 3:11persecutions, sufferings: what [sufferings] happened to me in Antioch, in Iconium, in Lystra; what persecutions I endured; and the Lord delivered me out of all. 3:12And all indeed who desire to live piously in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. 3:13But wicked men and juggling impostors shall advance in evil, leading and being led astray. 3:14But *thou*, abide in those things which thou hast learned, and [of which] thou hast been fully persuaded, knowing of whom thou hast learned [them]; 3:15and that from a child thou hast known the sacred letters, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation, through faith which [is] in Christ Jesus. 3:16Every scripture [is] divinely inspired, and profitable for teaching, for conviction, for correction, for instruction in righteousness; 3:17that the man of God may be complete, fully fitted to every good work.
4:1I testify before God and Christ Jesus, who is about to judge living and dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom, 4:2proclaim the word; be urgent in season [and] out of season, convict, rebuke, encourage, with all longsuffering and doctrine. 4:3For the time shall be when they will not bear sound teaching; but according to their own lusts will heap up to themselves teachers, having an itching ear; 4:4and they will turn away their ear from the truth, and will have turned aside to fables. 4:5But *thou*, be sober in all things, bear evils, do [the] work of an evangelist, fill up the full measure of thy ministry. 4:6For *I* am already being poured out, and the time of my release is come. 4:7I have combated the good combat, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 4:8Henceforth the crown of righteousness is laid up for me, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will render to me in that day; but not only to me, but also to all who love his appearing. 4:9Use diligence to come to me quickly; 4:10for Demas has forsaken me, having loved the present age, and is gone to Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia. 4:11Luke alone is with me. Take Mark, and bring [him] with thyself, for he is serviceable to me for ministry. 4:12But Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus. 4:13The cloak which I left behind [me] in Troas at Carpus's, bring when thou comest, and the books, especially the parchments. 4:14Alexander the smith did many evil things against me. The Lord will render to him according to his works. 4:15Against whom be *thou* also on thy guard, for he has greatly withstood our words. 4:16At my first defence no man stood with me, but all deserted me. May it not be imputed to them. 4:17But the Lord stood with [me], and gave me power, that through me the proclamation might be fully made, and all [those of] the nations should hear; and I was delivered out of the lion's mouth. 4:18The Lord shall deliver me from every wicked work, and shall preserve [me] for his heavenly kingdom; to whom [be] glory for the ages of ages. Amen. 4:19Salute Prisca and Aquila, and the house of Onesiphorus. 4:20Erastus remained in Corinth, but Trophimus I left behind in Miletus sick. 4:21Use diligence to come before winter. Eubulus salutes thee, and Pudens, and Linus, and Claudia, and the brethren all. 4:22The Lord Jesus Christ [be] with your spirit. Grace [be] with you.
Titus
1:1Paul, bondman of God, and apostle of Jesus Christ according to [the] faith of God's elect, and knowledge of [the] truth which [is] according to piety; 1:2in [the] hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the ages of time, 1:3but has manifested in its own due season his word, in [the] proclamation with which *I* have been entrusted, according to [the] commandment of our Saviour God; 1:4to Titus, my own child according to [the] faith common [to us]: Grace and peace from God [the] Father, and Christ Jesus our Saviour. 1:5For this cause I left thee in Crete, that thou mightest go on to set right what remained [unordered], and establish elders in each city, as *I* had ordered thee: 1:6if any one be free from all charge [against him], husband of one wife, having believing children not accused of excess or unruly. 1:7For the overseer must be free from all charge [against him] as God's steward; not headstrong, not passionate, not disorderly through wine, not a striker, not seeking gain by base means; 1:8but hospitable, a lover of goodness, discreet, just, pious, temperate, 1:9clinging to the faithful word according to the doctrine taught, that he may be able both to encourage with sound teaching and refute gainsayers. 1:10For there are many and disorderly vain speakers and deceivers of people's minds, specially those of [the] circumcision, 1:11who must have their mouths stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which ought not [to be taught] for the sake of base gain. 1:12One of themselves, a prophet of their own, has said, Cretans are always liars, evil wild beasts, lazy gluttons. 1:13This testimony is true; for which cause rebuke them severely, that they may be sound in the faith, 1:14not turning [their] minds to Jewish fables and commandments of men turning away from the truth. 1:15All things [are] pure to the pure; but to the defiled and unbelieving nothing [is] pure; but both their mind and their conscience are defiled. 1:16They profess to know God, but in works deny [him], being abominable, and disobedient, and found worthless as to every good work.
2:1But do *thou* speak the things that become sound teaching; 2:2that the elder men be sober, grave, discreet, sound in faith, in love, in patience; 2:3that the elder women in like manner be in deportment as becoming those who have to say to sacred things, not slanderers, not enslaved to much wine, teachers of what is right; 2:4that they may admonish the young women to be attached to [their] husbands, to be attached to [their] children, 2:5discreet, chaste, diligent in home work, good, subject to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be evil spoken of. 2:6The younger men in like manner exhort to be discreet: 2:7in all things affording thyself as a pattern of good works; in teaching uncorruptedness, gravity, 2:8a sound word, not to be condemned; that he who is opposed may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say about us: 2:9bondmen to be subject to their own masters, to make themselves acceptable in everything; not gainsaying; 2:10not robbing [their masters], but shewing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the teaching which [is] of our Saviour God in all things. 2:11For the grace of God which carries with it salvation for all men has appeared, 2:12teaching us that, having denied impiety and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, and justly, and piously in the present course of things, 2:13awaiting the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ; 2:14who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all lawlessness, and purify to himself a peculiar people, zealous for good works. 2:15These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise thee.
