^12:1Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead. ^12:2There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him. ^12:3Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment. ^12:4Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, which should betray him, ^12:5Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor? ^12:6This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein. ^12:7Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this. ^12:8For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always. ^12:9Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead. ^12:10But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death; ^12:11Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus. ^12:12On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, ^12:13Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord. ^12:14And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, ^12:15Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt. ^12:16These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him. ^12:17The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record. ^12:18For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle. ^12:19The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him. ^12:20And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast: ^12:21The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus. ^12:22Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus. ^12:23And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. ^12:24Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. ^12:25He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. ^12:26If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. ^12:27Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. ^12:28Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. ^12:29The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him. ^12:30Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes. ^12:31Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. ^12:32And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. ^12:33This he said, signifying what death he should die. ^12:34The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man? ^12:35Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. ^12:36While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them. ^12:37But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him: ^12:38That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? ^12:39Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again, ^12:40He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. ^12:41These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him. ^12:42Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: ^12:43For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. ^12:44Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me. ^12:45And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me. ^12:46I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. ^12:47And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. ^12:48He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. ^12:49For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. ^12:50And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

^13:1Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end. ^13:2And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him; ^13:3Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God; ^13:4He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. ^13:5After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. ^13:6Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? ^13:7Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. ^13:8Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. ^13:9Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. ^13:10Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all. ^13:11For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean. ^13:12So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? ^13:13Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. ^13:14If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. ^13:15For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. ^13:16Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. ^13:17If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them. ^13:18I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me. ^13:19Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he. ^13:20Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. ^13:21When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. ^13:22Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake. ^13:23Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved. ^13:24Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake. ^13:25He then lying on Jesus’ breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it? ^13:26Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. ^13:27And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly. ^13:28Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him. ^13:29For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor. ^13:30He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night. ^13:31Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him. ^13:32If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him. ^13:33Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you. ^13:34A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. ^13:35By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. ^13:36Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards. ^13:37Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake. ^13:38Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.

^14:1Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. ^14:2In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. ^14:3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. ^14:4And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. ^14:5Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? ^14:6Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. ^14:7If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. ^14:8Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. ^14:9Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? ^14:10Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. ^14:11Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake. ^14:12Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. ^14:13And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. ^14:14If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. ^14:15If ye love me, keep my commandments. ^14:16And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; ^14:17Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. ^14:18I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. ^14:19Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. ^14:20At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. ^14:21He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. ^14:22Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? ^14:23Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. ^14:24He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me. ^14:25These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. ^14:26But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. ^14:27Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. ^14:28Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. ^14:29And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe. ^14:30Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me. ^14:31But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.

^15:1I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. ^15:2Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. ^15:3Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. ^15:4Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. ^15:5I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. ^15:6If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. ^15:7If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. ^15:8Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. ^15:9As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. ^15:10If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. ^15:11These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. ^15:12This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. ^15:13Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. ^15:14Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. ^15:15Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. ^15:16Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. ^15:17These things I command you, that ye love one another. ^15:18If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. ^15:19If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. ^15:20Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. ^15:21But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me. ^15:22If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin. ^15:23He that hateth me hateth my Father also. ^15:24If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. ^15:25But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause. ^15:26But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: ^15:27And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

^16:1These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended. ^16:2They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. ^16:3And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me. ^16:4But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you. ^16:5But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou? ^16:6But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart. ^16:7Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. ^16:8And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: ^16:9Of sin, because they believe not on me; ^16:10Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; ^16:11Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. ^16:12I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. ^16:13Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. ^16:14He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. ^16:15All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you. ^16:16A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father. ^16:17Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father? ^16:18They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith. ^16:19Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me? ^16:20Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. ^16:21A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. ^16:22And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you. ^16:23And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. ^16:24Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. ^16:25These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father. ^16:26At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you: ^16:27For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God. ^16:28I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father. ^16:29His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb. ^16:30Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God. ^16:31Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe? ^16:32Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. ^16:33These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

^17:1These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: ^17:2As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. ^17:3And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. ^17:4I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. ^17:5And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. ^17:6I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. ^17:7Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. ^17:8For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. ^17:9I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. ^17:10And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them. ^17:11And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. ^17:12While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. ^17:13And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. ^17:14I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. ^17:15I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. ^17:16They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. ^17:17Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. ^17:18As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. ^17:19And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. ^17:20Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; ^17:21That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. ^17:22And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: ^17:23I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. ^17:24Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. ^17:25O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. ^17:26And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

^18:1When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples. ^18:2And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples. ^18:3Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons. ^18:4Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye? ^18:5They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I amhe. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them. ^18:6As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground. ^18:7Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth. ^18:8Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way: ^18:9That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none. ^18:10Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus. ^18:11Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it? ^18:12Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him, ^18:13And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year. ^18:14Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people. ^18:15And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest. ^18:16But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter. ^18:17Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man’s disciples? He saith, I am not. ^18:18And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself. ^18:19The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine. ^18:20Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing. ^18:21Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said. ^18:22And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so? ^18:23Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me? ^18:24Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest. ^18:25And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not. ^18:26One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him? ^18:27Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew. ^18:28Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover. ^18:29Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man? ^18:30They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee. ^18:31Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death: ^18:32That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die. ^18:33Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews? ^18:34Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me? ^18:35Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done? ^18:36Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. ^18:37Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. ^18:38Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all. ^18:39But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews? ^18:40Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.

^19:1Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him. ^19:2And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe, ^19:3And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands. ^19:4Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him. ^19:5Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man! ^19:6When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him. ^19:7The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God. ^19:8When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid; ^19:9And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer. ^19:10Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee? ^19:11Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin. ^19:12And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar’s friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar. ^19:13When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha. ^19:14And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King! ^19:15But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar. ^19:16Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away. ^19:17And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha: ^19:18Where they crucified him, and two others with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst. ^19:19And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS. ^19:20This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin. ^19:21Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews. ^19:22Pilate answered, What I have written I have written. ^19:23Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout. ^19:24They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did. ^19:25Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. ^19:26When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! ^19:27Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home. ^19:28After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. ^19:29Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. ^19:30When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. ^19:31The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. ^19:32Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him. ^19:33But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs: ^19:34But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. ^19:35And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe. ^19:36For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken. ^19:37And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced. ^19:38And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus. ^19:39And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight. ^19:40Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury. ^19:41Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid. ^19:42There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews’ preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.

^20:1The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. ^20:2Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him. ^20:3Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre. ^20:4So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre. ^20:5And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in. ^20:6Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie, ^20:7And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself. ^20:8Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed. ^20:9For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead. ^20:10Then the disciples went away again unto their own home. ^20:11But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre, ^20:12And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. ^20:13And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him. ^20:14And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. ^20:15Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. ^20:16Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master. ^20:17Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. ^20:18Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her. ^20:19Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. ^20:20And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord. ^20:21Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. ^20:22And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: ^20:23Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained. ^20:24But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. ^20:25The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. ^20:26And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. ^20:27Then saith he to Thomas, reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. ^20:28And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. ^20:29Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. ^20:30And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: ^20:31But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

^21:1After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself. ^21:2There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples. ^21:3Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing. ^21:4But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus. ^21:5Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No. ^21:6And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes. ^21:7Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher’s coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea. ^21:8And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes. ^21:9As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread. ^21:10Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught. ^21:11Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, and hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken. ^21:12Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord. ^21:13Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise. ^21:14This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead. ^21:15So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. ^21:16He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. ^21:17He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. ^21:18Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not. ^21:19This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me. ^21:20Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee? ^21:21Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do? ^21:22Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me. ^21:23Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? ^21:24This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true. ^21:25And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. ^1:1The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, ^1:2Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: ^1:3To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: ^1:4And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. ^1:5For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. ^1:6When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? ^1:7And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. ^1:8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. ^1:9And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. ^1:10And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; ^1:11Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. ^1:12Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey. ^1:13And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. ^1:14These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren. ^1:15And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,) ^1:16Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus. ^1:17For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry. ^1:18Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. ^1:19And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood. ^1:20For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take. ^1:21Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, ^1:22Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection. ^1:23And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. ^1:24And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen, ^1:25That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place. ^1:26And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

^2:1And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. ^2:2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. ^2:3And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. ^2:4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. ^2:5And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. ^2:6Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. ^2:7And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? ^2:8And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? ^2:9Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, ^2:10Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, ^2:11Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. ^2:12And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? ^2:13Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine. ^2:14But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: ^2:15For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. ^2:16But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; ^2:17And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: ^2:18And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: ^2:19And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: ^2:20The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: ^2:21And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. ^2:22Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: ^2:23Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: ^2:24Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. ^2:25For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: ^2:26Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: ^2:27Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. ^2:28Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. ^2:29Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. ^2:30Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; ^2:31He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. ^2:32This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. ^2:33Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. ^2:34For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, ^2:35Until I make thy foes thy footstool. ^2:36Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. ^2:37Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? ^2:38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. ^2:39For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. ^2:40And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. ^2:41Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. ^2:42And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. ^2:43And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. ^2:44And all that believed were together, and had all things common; ^2:45And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. ^2:46And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, ^2:47Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

^3:1Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. ^3:2And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; ^3:3Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. ^3:4And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. ^3:5And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. ^3:6Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. ^3:7And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. ^3:8And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. ^3:9And all the people saw him walking and praising God: ^3:10And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him. ^3:11And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon’s, greatly wondering. ^3:12And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk? ^3:13The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go. ^3:14But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you; ^3:15And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses. ^3:16And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. ^3:17And now, brethren, I wot that through ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers. ^3:18But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled. ^3:19Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; ^3:20And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: ^3:21Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began. ^3:22For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. ^3:23And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. ^3:24Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days. ^3:25Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. ^3:26Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.

^4:1And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them, ^4:2Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead. ^4:3And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide. ^4:4Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand. ^4:5And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes, ^4:6And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem. ^4:7And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this? ^4:8Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, ^4:9If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; ^4:10Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. ^4:11This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. ^4:12Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. ^4:13Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. ^4:14And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it. ^4:15But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, ^4:16Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it. ^4:17But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name. ^4:18And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. ^4:19But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye. ^4:20For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. ^4:21So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done. ^4:22For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was shewed. ^4:23And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them. ^4:24And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is: ^4:25Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things? ^4:26The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ. ^4:27For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together, ^4:28For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done. ^4:29And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, ^4:30By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus. ^4:31And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. ^4:32And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. ^4:33And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. ^4:34Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, ^4:35And laid them down at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need. ^4:36And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, ^4:37Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

^5:1But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, ^5:2And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet. ^5:3But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? ^5:4Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. ^5:5And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. ^5:6And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him. ^5:7And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in. ^5:8And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much. ^5:9Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out. ^5:10Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband. ^5:11And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things. ^5:12And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch. ^5:13And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them. ^5:14And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.) ^5:15Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. ^5:16There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one. ^5:17Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation, ^5:18And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison. ^5:19But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said, ^5:20Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life. ^5:21And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel and sent to the prison to have them brought. ^5:22But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned, and told, ^5:23Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within. ^5:24Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow. ^5:25Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people. ^5:26Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned. ^5:27And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them, ^5:28Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us. ^5:29Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. ^5:30The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. ^5:31Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. ^5:32And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him. ^5:33When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them. ^5:34Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space; ^5:35And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men. ^5:36For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought. ^5:37After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed. ^5:38And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: ^5:39But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God. ^5:40And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. ^5:41And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name. ^5:42And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

^6:1And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration. ^6:2Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables. ^6:3Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. ^6:4But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. ^6:5And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch: ^6:6Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them. ^6:7And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith. ^6:8And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. ^6:9Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen. ^6:10And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake. ^6:11Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God. ^6:12And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council, ^6:13And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law: ^6:14For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us. ^6:15And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

^7:1Then said the high priest, Are these things so? ^7:2And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran, ^7:3And said unto him, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee. ^7:4Then came he out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell. ^7:5And he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child. ^7:6And God spake on this wise, That his seed should sojourn in a strange land; and that they should bring them into bondage, and entreat them evil four hundred years. ^7:7And the nation to whom they shall be in bondage will I judge, said God: and after that shall they come forth, and serve me in this place. ^7:8And he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so Abraham begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat the twelve patriarchs. ^7:9And the patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him, ^7:10And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house. ^7:11Now there came a dearth over all the land of Egypt and Chanaan, and great affliction: and our fathers found no sustenance. ^7:12But when Jacob heard that there was corn in Egypt, he sent out our fathers first. ^7:13And at the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren; and Joseph’s kindred was made known unto Pharaoh. ^7:14Then sent Joseph, and called his father Jacob to him, and all his kindred, threescore and fifteen souls. ^7:15So Jacob went down into Egypt, and died, he, and our fathers, ^7:16And were carried over into Sychem, and laid in the sepulchre that Abraham bought for a sum of money of the sons of Emmor the father of Sychem. ^7:17But when the time of the promise drew nigh, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt, ^7:18Till another king arose, which knew not Joseph. ^7:19The same dealt subtilly with our kindred, and evil entreated our fathers, so that they cast out their young children, to the end they might not live. ^7:20In which time Moses was born, and was exceeding fair, and nourished up in his father’s house three months: ^7:21And when he was cast out, Pharaoh’s daughter took him up, and nourished him for her own son. ^7:22And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds. ^7:23And when he was full forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel. ^7:24And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian: ^7:25For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not. ^7:26And the next day he shewed himself unto them as they strove, and would have set them at one again, saying, Sirs, ye are brethren; why do ye wrong one to another? ^7:27But he that did his neighbour wrong thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us? ^7:28Wilt thou kill me, as thou diddest the Egyptian yesterday? ^7:29Then fled Moses at this saying, and was a stranger in the land of Madian, where he begat two sons. ^7:30And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush. ^7:31When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the Lord came unto him, ^7:32Saying, I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold. ^7:33Then said the Lord to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou standest is holy ground. ^7:34I have seen, I have seen the affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send thee into Egypt. ^7:35This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush. ^7:36He brought them out, after that he had shewed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years. ^7:37This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear. ^7:38This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us: ^7:39To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt, ^7:40Saying unto Aaron, Make us gods to go before us: for as for this Moses, which brought us out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him. ^7:41And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice unto the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands. ^7:42Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness? ^7:43Yea, ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, figures which ye made to worship them: and I will carry you away beyond Babylon. ^7:44Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as he had appointed, speaking unto Moses, that he should make it according to the fashion that he had seen. ^7:45Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drave out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David; ^7:46Who found favour before God, and desired to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob. ^7:47But Solomon built him an house. ^7:48Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet, ^7:49Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest? ^7:50Hath not my hand made all these things? ^7:51Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye. ^7:52Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers: ^7:53Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it. ^7:54When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth. ^7:55But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, ^7:56And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God. ^7:57Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord, ^7:58And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man’s feet, whose name was Saul. ^7:59And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. ^7:60And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

^8:1And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles. ^8:2And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him. ^8:3As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison. ^8:4Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word. ^8:5Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. ^8:6And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. ^8:7For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. ^8:8And there was great joy in that city. ^8:9But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one: ^8:10To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God. ^8:11And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries. ^8:12But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. ^8:13Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done. ^8:14Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: ^8:15Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: ^8:16(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) ^8:17Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. ^8:18And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, ^8:19Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. ^8:20But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. ^8:21Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. ^8:22Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee. ^8:23For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity. ^8:24Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me. ^8:25And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans. ^8:26And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert. ^8:27And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship, ^8:28Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet. ^8:29Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. ^8:30And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? ^8:31And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. ^8:32The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth: ^8:33In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth. ^8:34And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man? ^8:35Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. ^8:36And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? ^8:37And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. ^8:38And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. ^8:39And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing. ^8:40But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Caesarea.

^9:1And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, ^9:2And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. ^9:3And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: ^9:4And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? ^9:5And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. ^9:6And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. ^9:7And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man. ^9:8And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus. ^9:9And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink. ^9:10And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord. ^9:11And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth, ^9:12And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight. ^9:13Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem: ^9:14And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name. ^9:15But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: ^9:16For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name’s sake. ^9:17And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. ^9:18And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized. ^9:19And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus. ^9:20And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God. ^9:21But all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests? ^9:22But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ. ^9:23And after that many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel to kill him: ^9:24But their laying await was known of Saul. And they watched the gates day and night to kill him. ^9:25Then the disciples took him by night, and let him down by the wall in a basket. ^9:26And when Saul was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself to the disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disciple. ^9:27But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus. ^9:28And he was with them coming in and going out at Jerusalem. ^9:29And he spake boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus, and disputed against the Grecians: but they went about to slay him. ^9:30Which when the brethren knew, they brought him down to Caesarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus. ^9:31Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied. ^9:32And it came to pass, as Peter passed throughout all quarters, he came down also to the saints which dwelt at Lydda. ^9:33And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy. ^9:34And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately. ^9:35And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him, and turned to the Lord. ^9:36Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did. ^9:37And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber. ^9:38And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them. ^9:39Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them. ^9:40But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up. ^9:41And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive. ^9:42And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many believed in the Lord. ^9:43And it came to pass, that he tarried many days in Joppa with one Simon a tanner.
