Acceptance

By using Scholia you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the service.

Use of the library

Scholia hosts primary texts drawn from the public domain alongside user-contributed annotations, quotations, and articles. You're welcome to read, annotate, and cite freely for personal and scholarly use.

Not everything on Scholia is public domain, however. Our own translations, modernizations, digitizations, and editorial work — as well as commentary and annotations contributed by editors — are original works protected by copyright and published under the terms set out on the Licence page (generally CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). You may not reproduce, redistribute, or create derivative versions of this material except as that licence allows.

Your content

You retain ownership of anything you write. By publishing an article or saving a quotation, you grant Scholia a non-exclusive license to display it to other readers.

Conduct

Scholia is a place for serious reading and civil discussion. Any form of hate speech, profanity, harassment, or otherwise abusive behavior — in articles, notes, feedback, or anywhere else on the service — is not tolerated. A first offense will result in the deletion of the offending material and a warning. A second offense will result in an immediate ban. A ban includes the cancellation of any active subscription without refund. We reserve sole discretion in judging what crosses this line.

Subscriptions

Paid subscriptions are billed through Stripe. You can cancel at any time, which stops future charges; except where the law requires otherwise, payments already made are not refunded. See the Conduct section above for termination without refund in case of abuse.

When you purchase a subscription, you request immediate access to a digital service. By completing the purchase you expressly consent to the service starting right away and acknowledge that you thereby waive the 14-day right of withdrawal that would otherwise apply under EU and Norwegian consumer law.

Termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. You may contact us to delete your account at any time (see Contact below).

Changes

These terms may change as the project matures. Material changes will be announced.
